President's Message

Jana Stern, 2026-27 President Rotary Club of Pearl Harbor

Jana Stern, 2026-2027

Aloha from the Rotary Club of Pearl Harbor,

It is my privilege to serve as your President for the 2026–27 Rotary year. Our club was chartered on June 14, 1950, and this year we celebrate 76 years of service, fellowship, and the kind of friendship that turns strangers into ‘ohana. I’ve felt that magic myself and it’s what I most want to share with anyone considering Rotary for the first time.

We are one of more than 50 Rotary clubs in the State of Hawaiʻi, part of District 5000, and connected to over 46,000 clubs worldwide doing this same work of service above self. Our calendar reflects that commitment: several times a year we join the Hawaii Food Bank’s food packing projects supporting children and kūpuna; every third Saturday in June we clean the Ehime Maru Memorial and surrounding Kakaʻako Park; and we proudly host a Student of the Quarter program honoring students from Radford High School. Through our sponsorship of Radford High School’s Interact Club, we get to watch the next generation of service-minded leaders take their first steps, always one of the most rewarding parts of our year.

Each year, the Hawaii Rotary Youth Foundation awards a $5,000 scholarship to the winner of our scholarship competition, alongside additional scholarships made possible by the generosity of our late member Dudley Fullard-Leo. This year, instead of our usual Dictionary Project, we’re proud to sponsor five students to attend Rotary Youth Camp, an investment in leadership and lifelong friendship that we hope will ripple forward for years to come.

For 40 years, our Sister Club relationship with the Hiroshima Southeast Rotary Club has reminded us that peace is built person to person, club to club, across even the most painful histories. That same spirit is what draws me to our club’s support of the Journey to Peace Initiative (JPI), a series of forums connecting diplomatic, military, academic, and community leaders with the next generation, to examine the lessons of WWII and ask what they mean for preventing war today. This year, I’m committed to growing attendance and awareness for JPI’s seminars and panel discussions, so more of our community can take part in this important journey.

If any of this resonates with you, I hope you’ll visit us and experience the magic for yourself. Your first lunch is on us; please reach out, we’d love to meet you.

Mahalo,
Jana Stern
